If you are experiencing recurrent drainage issues regarding blockages ect, this may need to have an excavation to repair the existing drainage network. This would mean replacing the damaged section with a new pipe so no more issues occur.

Pitch fibre repairs

Pitch fibre pipes were commonly installed between the 1950s and 1970s; they were introduced as a cheaper alternative to the more standard clay pipes. We have now learned that these drain pipes have a general working life of around 40 years meaning they are unlikely to outlast the clay pipes they were replacing. Use of hot water, household chemicals, grease and fats over a long time can soften the tar and cause delamination in the form of lumps/bubbles in the fibre. Weakening the material means that the pipes can deform underground and eventually, if left untreated, leak and collapse.

If the pipe has blisters or a break then there is a good chance it can be re rounded and lined, If the pipe has sunk in and is holding water then it will have to be dug out and repaired with new pipe work.
